Newtone designs Carife’s new Compact Bank
Consulting, relationships, and innovation in 50 sqm of design
The idea stems from the need to create a service model that allows the traditional bank to translate its functions into a human-scaled environment — a space where transactional components are automated and advisory relationships are optimized.
The Humanistic Workshop
The primary values that inspired this bank’s format are history and nature — the essence of a territorial bank whose genius loci is profoundly unique and distinctive.
History, as a fundamental matrix in Ferrara’s urban and architectural design, is expressed through the stylistic language of the ideal Renaissance city — from the iconic grandeur of its monumental palaces to the intimate craft shops of its historic center.
At the same time, the surrounding natural landscape — rich in colors and scents that change with the seasons — frames and permeates the city, narrating the rhythm of the months, glimpsed at the end of the tree-lined streets that lead beyond the walls.
The bank aims to embody and convey within its interior those same values of solidity and nobility that one breathes while walking through Ferrara — restoring the sense of authenticity and relational warmth found in the city’s narrow alleys, old workshops, cafés, and taverns.
The external façade takes inspiration from the imagery of the traditional workshop: a solid wooden door and lacquered metal baseboards suggest an intimate, welcoming interior.
The interior design concept reinterprets the values of place in a fresh, contemporary key — creating a warm, human-centered space: the bank of your land.
Boiseries and wallpapers, reimagined in a modern stylistic code, translate the authority of Estense noble interiors and tapestries into a playful and elegant language. With their historically and naturally inspired decorations in vivid tones, they infuse the space with the light and warmth of a living room — a convivial place where dialogue feels more human and sincere.
CARIFE ACTIVE
The architectural layout is divided into a self-service Active area — where ATMs allow cash and check withdrawals and deposits — and a staffed area dedicated to consultation booths and waiting zones, ranging from 30 to 50 square meters in total.
These functions are treated and perceived as distinct “boxes,” each characterized by different color tones.
